License To Carry FAQs
- Do I have to be a Texas resident to get a Texas LTC ?
- No. Texas will issue a Texas LTC (license to carry) to anyone who has a valid drivers license or State ID issued by any one of the 50 States.
- Can I take the LTC class if I am under 21 ?
- Yes. Texas changed the rules and an 18 year old is now eligible as long as they have nothing else in their background that would disqualify them (felony, protective order, etc).
- Can I take the class online?
- Yes. This has become the way most people get their LTC and is a great alternative to the in-person class. Our online Texas license to carry course works on your phone, computer, laptop or tablet. It is a self paced course that you can take when ever you want. Our online LTC course is only $49.

- Is this the official Texas LTC class?
- Yes. We partner with Texas Carry Academy for the online course. They are certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety Regulatory Services Division as an authorized online Texas LTC course provider. They will administer the course and issue your Certificate of Completion (Form LTC-104). Don't lose this form!!
- Is the online LTC class easy?
- Yes. Our online Texas LTC class is comprehensive and easy to follow. We have a 100% pass rate.
- How hard is the shooting qualification?
- The course of fire for the shooting qualification is easy but you need to be moderately proficient with your handgun. If you can independantly load and prepare your pistol to fire, clear a jam or malfunction, and operate your hangun safely in a range setting you are good to go.
- How can I get confidence handling my handgun before I take the shooting qualification?
- DPS does not allow us to offer instruction during the shooting qualification. If you are not 100% comfortable with your firearm, we highly recommend that you take our Handgun and Shooting Fundamentals classes before taking the range portion of the LTC course. This is a great way to prepare and learn how to safely handle your firearm.
- How Do I apply For My Texas LTC?
- We recommend waiting until after you complete the online LTC course to apply for your Texas LTC because we cover the Texas LTC application process in class. It is an online application and is submitted on the DPS website. Apply Here After you submit your initial online application they will email you a checklist of items needed to complete your application.
